About the Author
Simon Ball won an Open Exhibition to read history at Brasenose, Oxford. He studied for his PhD under David Reynolds at Christ's College, Cambridge, and was Head of Modern History at Glasgow University. He is the author of the critically accalimed 'The Guardsmen', one of the best reviewed books of 2004.
